Ukraine has repeatedly demonstrated its broad popular commitment to its European future and democracy. The country has been resisting Russia’s full-scale invasion since 24 February 2022. This invasion marks not only a major escalation of a war of aggression against Ukraine that has been ongoing since 2014, but also the largest and most brutal act of war in Europe since the end of the Second World War. The humanitarian suffering and material damage in Ukraine are immense. In the occupied territories, Russia is indoctrinating the population in an attempt to destroy the Ukrainian nation and identity.

Ukraine has no choice but to fight this defensive war in order to survive Russia’s aggression. The EU and the democratic world must support Kyiv not only for Ukraine’s sake but also out of self-interest. Russia's imperial and neo-colonial ambitions extend beyond Ukraine.

SCEEUS analyses Ukrainian internal developments and foreign affairs in the context of Russian aggression. This includes domestic politics, resilience, internal reform processes, anti-corruption, economics, and demographics, as well as external relations, including diplomatic initiatives to achive peace and long-term security.
