On Monday 27 April, SCEEUS, in cooperation with the Prague Civil Society Centre, co-hosted a panel discussion with representatives from leading Ukrainian independent media outlets ahead of World Press Freedom Day.
The panel, moderated by George Leech, Director of Outreach and Communications at the Prague Civil Society Centre, featured Alina Polyakova from Ukrainska Pravda, Diana Butsko from Hromadske, Valeriia Krupoderia from Eastern Variant, Alyona Yatsyna from Kordon Media, and Yuliia Lytvynenko from Telebachennya Toronto, representing both national and regional Ukrainian media. The discussion highlighted the reality facing many Ukrainian journalists, operating under constant security threats, while investigating in those in power, exposing corruption, uncovering sanctions evasion, monitoring Russia’s information warfare, and keeping the public informed under extremely challenging wartime conditions. The panellists also addressed the practical and ethical challenges of reporting under sustained pressure, as well as the tools and strategies needed to counter disinformation and sustain independent journalism during wartime.
