On 7 May, SCEEUS, together with the Swedish National China Centre (NKK), the Centre for Eastern Studies (OSW) and the Mercator Institute for Chinese Studies (MERICS) launched the China-Russia Dashboard.

The Dashboard was officially introduced during a roundtable discussion in Brussels, co-organized by NKK, the European China Knowledge Network (E-CKN) and the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and hosted by the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the EU.

In addition to remarks by Ingrid Ask, the Swedish Ambassador to the EU Political and Security Committee, contributions were made by Charlotta Rodhe and Hugo von Essen of SCEEUS, Björn Jerdén of NKK and representatives of OSW and MERICS. Expert input was also provided by Gunnar Wiegand from the German Marshall Fund and Tim Rühlig from the EUISS.

Participants included representatives from several other EU Member States, EU institutions such as the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as experts from other research organisations including Clingendael and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI).Image (24)

As part of the Dashboard presentation, the roundtable explored recent developments in the deepening strategic partnership between China and Russia, its long-term impact on the European security order, and policy options for European stakeholders. Specific issues addressed included China’s role in supporting Russia’s war against Ukraine, the long-term implications of current geopolitical shifts for Sino-Russian relations as well as the consequences of evolving Transatlantic relations.
