On Friday 26 September, SCEEUS hosted a seminar with Arseniy Yatsenyuk, founder and chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum and former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2014–2016). The discussion was moderated by Fredrik Löjdquist, Director of SCEEUS.

During the seminar, Yatsenyuk emphasised that US support and a long-term strategy from the EU are crucial for Ukraine’s ability to withstand Russian aggression. He questioned the prospects of reaching a diplomatic solution to the war, arguing that discussions on security guarantees prior to a full ceasefire or a sustainable peace were not fruitful. Yatsenyuk also underlined Ukraine’s urgent needs in terms of military, economic and political support.

Regarding the role of EU member states in supporting Ukraine, Yatsenyuk highlighted the importance of turning political commitments into concrete measures and warned that the actions of individual states could risk undermining collective support. At the same time, he stressed the significance of preserving EU unity and countering attempts to weaken the Union’s cohesion in backing Ukraine.
