Seminar with Dr Céline Marangé

 On the 25th of September, SCEEUS and UI hosted a seminar with Dr. Céline Marangé, one of France’s leading Russia specialists, who presented her new book La guerre d’Europe a commencé (2026). Dr. Marangé works for the Institute for Strategic Research (IRSEM) in Paris. She recently co-edited a research paper with Susan Stewart called The Tipping Point. An Emerging Model of European Security with Ukraine and without Russia, for Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP). 

In her widely acclaimed book La guerre d’Europe a commencé, Dr. Marangé examines the possible motivations underpinning Russia's current strategy. She argues that the end state Russia is working towards is a Ukrainian state unable to maintain its sovereignty, an overhaul of the European security order and a domestic social contract built on fear and submission to the Russian state. The discussion addressed Russia’s future trajectory and its implications for European security, as well as France’s evolving approach towards Russia and how this policy has changed over time.
