SCEEUS Strategy Group 2025: How should the EU navigate a world where shifting US priorities put Europe’s security at stake?
The new Trump administration is challenging European unity and policy, prompting renewed debate on the future of Transatlantic relations and Europe's strategic direction. These issues took centre stage at SCEEUS’ annual Strategy Group meeting on 28–29 January, where experts from think tanks, academia and diplomacy gathered to discuss how the EU should navigate this evolving geopolitical landscape.
This year, SCEEUS welcomed a distinguished group of highly qualified experts with extensive experience in international affairs, transatlantic relations, and security policy.
Among other key issues discussed were whether and how to adapt EU enlargement strategies to the current geopolitical landscape, the EU’s response to elections and protests in Georgia, and what potential security guarantees could be offered to Ukraine. Additionally, one session explored how to formulate a long-term strategy towards Russia.
