After a thousand days since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and the recent introduction of North Korean soldiers, can the situation at the frontline in Ukraine still be characterised as representing one of static warfare. Both sides face difficulties regarding recruitment, which entails limited possibilities for any major offensive operations that could break the stalemate.

To tackle recent developments, SCEEUS organised a roundtable discussion with experts in the field on the 25th of November. Among some of the subjects discussed were Russia's approach to recruiting soldiers, how conscripts can be used at the front, the economic and structural difficulties Russia faces, as well as possible scenarios regarding future developments related to the subject.

The panel included Aleksandr Golts, military analyst at SCEEUS, who recently published a report on Russian mobilization, as well as Jonas Kjellén, FOI, author of the report Bringing the Soldier Back In, which similarly touches on Russian mobilization in the light of the current war. Moderator for the discussion was Johan Engvall, SCEEUS.
