It has been an eventful start to 2025, with multiple crises and political statements succeeding one another in global politics. Meanwhile, the crisis in Georgia is still ongoing. Thornike Gordzadze and Ana Khurtsidze from the Gnomon Wise Institute visited SCEEUS on February 20 to discuss the latest developments in Georgia and potential ways forward.

Thornike Gordzadze and Ana Khurtsidze presented an overview of the current situation and the witness testimonies collected by the Institute. Among other things, they highlighted the legal reforms introduced by the Georgian Dream government that pose increasingly difficult challenges for the protest movement, the opposition, and media. The discussion that followed centered around what the EU and individual member states can do to support democracy and freedom in Georgia.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Swedish Foreign Ministry, SIDA, and several civil society organizations.

Gnomon Wise publishes GEOPolitics monthly on developments in Georgia. Read it here.
